Who we are

This website is run by Burgess Software, a software studio based in South-East England. If you have a question about this page or your information, email enquiries@burgesssoftware.co.uk.

What you type into the calculators

The calculators work entirely in your browser. The salary, loan balance, house price or anything else you enter is not sent to us or stored anywhere, and it's gone when you close the page.

There are two ways figures can end up in a web address, both only when you choose them:

• Sharing with your figures. The Share button offers a plain link or one with your figures in it. Anyone who has the second kind of link can see those figures.
• Moving between calculators. Some calculators link to another one with your figures filled in, for example from the Student Loan calculator to the PAYE calculator.

When a link like that is opened, the figures are part of the address the browser asks for, so they appear in our web host's standard server logs along with every other page request (see below).

The contact form

If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent through Formspree, a form service that passes them on to us by email. We use them only to reply to you and, if we end up working together, to keep a record of the conversation. You can ask us to delete them at any time.

If you'd rather not use the form, email us directly instead.

Adverts and cookies

The calculator pages show adverts from Google AdSense, which is how the calculators stay free. We don't set any cookies of our own.

If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your permission before any advertising cookies are used. Google saves your answer in a cookie so the message doesn't appear on every page.

• If you agree, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to choose adverts that suit your interests and to measure how the adverts perform.
• If you don't, you can still use every calculator in full. Google may show adverts that don't use your personal information.

Google's page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services explains what it does with this information. Google's My Ad Center lets you turn off personalised adverts everywhere.

Changing your choice

On any calculator page, Cookie settings at the bottom of the page opens Google's consent message again so you can change your answer. Clearing this site's cookies in your browser also resets it, and the message will ask again on your next visit.

Things we don't do

• We don't use analytics or tracking tools of our own.
• We don't ask you to sign in or create an account.
• We don't sell or pass on your information.

Dark mode on the calculators follows your device's own setting. Nothing is stored to make that work.

Server logs

Like almost every website, our web host keeps standard logs of the requests its servers receive: your IP address, the page and address requested, the time, and what browser you used. These are kept for a limited time to keep the site running and secure, and we don't use them to identify anyone.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Email enquiries@burgesssoftware.co.uk and we'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
